Prepared

“Lord, prepare me in this season…”

Whenever we think about preparation, we often think of it in tangible terms. In grade school we prepare for college. In college we prepare for a career. In our career, we prepare for retirement. We prepare to be wives and husbands. We prepare to be mothers and fathers. All of these things have tangible results.
We can prepare for anything we want in life, but life will inevitably leave us unprepared. The breath will be knocked out of us, and we will quickly turn our prayer of preparation into a bitter complaint:
“Lord I was not prepared.”
I want you to know that as I write this post, I am still halfway between the complaint and the prayer. I am still trying to catch my breath. But the Lord wants us all to know today that even the unprepared are prepared. Not because we were educated on anything we are currently going through. Not because the situation will miraculously be better tomorrow. We are prepared because God is not surprised. He saw this long before we did. He knew the brokenness we would feel, the questions we would have, and he knows the end results that we still can’t see.
I pray that his peace will guide you and that his preparation will become evident.
We were only ever prepared to lean and depend on Him.
So, you are prepared, and you will make it through.
“Happy are the people whose strength is in you.
Whose hearts are set on pilgrimage.
As they pass through the Valley of Tears
They make it a source of Springwater;
Even the Autumn rain will cover it with blessings.
They go from strength to strength.
Each appears before God in Zion.” -Psalm 84: 5-7
